Danilo Gallinari very ambitious, with Italy and the Celtics

At 34, Danilo Gallinari finds a second youth since his passage from Atlanta to Boston, propelling him into a formation cut out for the title, and not just any, the one he has cherished since his earliest childhood.

Before that, another challenge awaits him with the Italian selection at EuroBasket 2022, with the first round at home in Milan. It is therefore time for preparation, with in particular a friendly match against France this Friday in Bologna, a sign that the rise in power of the “Squadra azzurra” is becoming clearer.

“Training camp is going well. We started a few days ago and within a few weeks we should be ready for EuroBasket. I can say that the first training sessions were very intense”he confided before discussing the objectives of the Italian selection. “There are a lot of very strong teams with a lot of NBA players. We will have to be amazing and maybe exceed expectations. But a team like ours has succeeded in the past and we can do it again.”

A ring or nothing

We remember in particular the great Olympic campaign of the Italians, who held off the French in the quarter-finals before losing 84-75. Less than a minute from the end, the tricolor only led by three points, following two free throws signed… Danilo Gallinari.

After the Euro, the NBA season will arrive very quickly, and there too, “Gallo” will want to be ambitious.

“The goal is to get the ring with Boston. Although I’ve been in the NBA for 14 years, I’m excited to start the next chapter of my career. As long as I can feel that excitement, I don’t want to stop.”he added. “With the Celtics, there will certainly be a lot of responsibility and expectations. I have already spoken with many of my new teammates and staff members. They are eager to return to the game, there is great enthusiasm. Some are already there. As far as I’m concerned, I’m focused on Italy, and then I’ll focus on the Celtics”.

As a reminder, Danilo Gallinari, 48 playoff games to his credit, has never played in the NBA finals. His best postseason career dates back to 2021 with the Hawks (conference final).
