Cruz’s silver ranks Cuba twelfth in the youth world championships

Havana, Aug 13 (ACN) The judoka Omar Cruz won today the silver medal of the more than 100 kilograms (kg) and placed Cuba in 12th place in the individual tournament of the Junior World Championship, on the closing day with headquarters at the Voltaire Paladines Polo Coliseum in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

According to the International Federation website www.ijf.org, the Cuban fell by ippon in the title discussion against the Japanese Yuta Nakamura, who ratified his country at the top of the medal table, with six gold, two silver and two made of bronze.

To the silver metal achieved by Cruz were added the tans achieved on previous dates by Kimy Bravo (66 kg) and Idelannis Gómez (70 kg), loot (0-1-2) achieved with the seven judokas registered in the contest.

This Saturday, Cruz was bye in the first round of preliminaries, and later reached ippon victories against Azerbaijani Kanan Nasibov, Jules Blom, from the Netherlands, and American Christian Konaval, who is last in the semifinals.

The other Cuban in competition today was Dayanara Curbelo (+78 kg), who was able to make little progress, since she first disposed of the Georgian Ana Sherazadishvili by ippon and then lost by ippon against the Turkish Hilal Ozturk.

The other four Cubans entered in the individual event were Blanca Cabrera (52 kg), Lutmary García (63 kg) and Serguei Rodríguez (90 kg), who lost in their first bouts on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, in that order.

The actions will close tomorrow Sunday in Guayaquil, but with the mixed team tournament, which summons the divisions of 57, 70 and +70 (f), and 73, 90 and +90 kg (m).

Following the Japanese (6-2-2) were France (1-2-3), Turkey (1-2-2), Italy (1-1-3), Uzbekistan (1-0-2), Spain (1-0-2), Netherlands (1-0-1),

Moldova (1-0-0) and Tajikistan (1-0-0), the nine nations that won at least one of the 14 crowns in dispute in the individual event.
