Cozumel team climbs to the national basketball podium 3×3 – Lights of the Century

  • Stars de Cozumel reached the podium in the National Basketball Tournament 3×3 Pro Circuit, which took place in Mexico City.

CANCÚN, Q. ROO.- The Cozumel Stars team reached the podium in the 3×3 Pro Circuit National Basketball Tournament, which took place at the Ciudad Deportiva Magdalena Mixhuca in the Mexico Citywhere 390 teams from all over the Republic participated in 17 categories.

The team took third place in the U-13 category. The members were Zoe Gómez, Monserrat Quiñones, Mónica Agatón and Lourdes Quiñones, who defeated their counterpart from Cuernavaca.

During the Group Phase, the women from Cozumel finished as leaders of sector A, over the teams Tigres Acapulco, Sierra Norte Oaxaca, OBP Hermosillo, Kennedy Cuernavaca and Eddi Texcoco. In the quarterfinals, the Quintana Roo eliminated Lobos de Chihuahua by a score of 7-5; while in the Semifinals they fell to Mamba de Hermosillo by a scoreboard of 5-6, to keep third place.

For its part, in the U-18 category, Cozumel was represented by Evelin Can, Grays Chuc, Fanny Cruz and Dalia Cupul, who managed to overcome the Group Phase, however, they were beaten 6-10 by Cinnamon Pro Benito Juárez, from the Mexico City in the instance of the Round of 16.

It is worth mentioning that the U-15 representative made up of Julieta Chablé, Miranda Castillo, Kiara Solis and Jocelyn Chi, stayed in the first phase of the contest. The Cozumel Stars delegation that participated in this national event was led by coaches Ignacio Várguez and Sergio Gómez.
