Champions League – Benfica coach Schmidt celebrates playoff win against Kyiv – Sport

The dream of the Champions League has burst for the Ukrainian record champions Dynamo Kyiv, while the German coach Roger Schmidt can look forward to the premier class with Benfica Lisbon. Benfica clearly defeated Kyiv 3-0 (3-0) in the playoff second leg on Tuesday evening. Already the first leg. which Kyiv had to play in Lodz, Poland, because of the war at home, the Portuguese had won 2-0.

In the second leg, Nicolas Otamendi (27′), Rafa (40′) and David Neres (42′) scored for Benfica before the break is said to have been substituted on in the 70th minute. Coach Schmidt said about Gladbach’s interest in Weigl: “There might be an opportunity for him to change clubs. That’s his decision at the end of the day. We’ll see what happens.” Weigl is not a regular player because there is strong competition in his position, according to Schmidt. Nevertheless, Weigl is “a top player. If he stays here, he will play his games”.
