Cedidla’s brutal tackle on Ewerton poured emotion onto the pitch. The Zlín player should have been sent off, the commission said

After a timid first half in Eden, Zlín rose, fell and made the favorite uncertain after the break. However, in the 59th minute, the visitors’ defender Martin Cedidla shot down Ewerton with a brutal tackle, and a cistern of negative emotions spilled out onto the pitch.

The Brazilian dribbler was receiving the ball, and Cedidla came to him in a slide and took him down mercilessly. Ugly tackle, Ewerton fell and had to make a substitution. The sinner only received a yellow card.

“Four minutes earlier, a tackle on Petr Ševčík went unpunished. The referee correctly let the advantage go, but then didn’t go back on it. Already at that moment I was telling the fourth referee that the players had received a signal that they could afford it. And then this happened. Everyone around then gets a yellow, and the player who made the intervention is punished in the same way. It’s not just about Ewerton, in general, in my opinion, the cards come late,” said the somewhat disappointed Slavist coach Jindřich Trpišovský.

Ewerton had to be treated after a reckless foul by Cedidla, there was no play for tens of seconds. However, the video referee Vít Ondráš did not come to the conclusion that he should correct the verdict of head judge Dalibor Černý. “It’s incomprehensible to me that you can’t see it on video. He can let it go a few times. I have a certain understanding for the captain, it is sometimes not easy to evaluate the situation immediately on the pitch,” stated Trpišovský.

The referees committee issued a statement shortly after the match that Cedidla should have been sent off and that the refereeing error would be taken into account in the nominations for the next rounds.

The players’ view of Cedidla’s attack on Ewerton? “I definitely don’t agree with the yellow, in my opinion it was a bright red,” said slav player David Jurásek unequivocally. “I don’t want to evaluate it because the referee has a video. He gave a yellow card, so a yellow card for me,” Zlín defender Dominik Simerský shrugged.

Everyone felt that this moment completely changed the atmosphere on the pitch. “That probably contributed to it. Some interventions came from us that were sharper. Not that I apologize for them, but it is what it is. It was emotional, there was banter on the benches. All the interventions were right there. I think it was unnecessary from both sides,” Simerský glossed over the resulting choke.

Zlín was again mixed up by the expulsion of Václav Procházka. The experienced stopper received a yellow card for a foul in the first half, in the 70th minute he had a fight with Václav Jurečka, both fell to the ground. The referee didn’t whistle any foul, Slavia had a car. Jurečka had the ball, Procházka wanted to prevent him from quickly throwing the ball into the game, and he also had his soccer cleat in his hand, which he lost in the duel. Anyway, he got a second yellow card and was sent off.

“We exchanged words about it. But he needs to know if it could have been avoided. He had his boot off, the reaction was what it was. Classic, it was a bit more hyped, that probably contributed to it. He was fouled, I think that was the result of the foul not being called. He then wanted to prevent a quick throw-in, which is normal. The referee evaluated it like this,” Simerský described the situation.

The guests were probably a bit frustrated. Emotions were caused, for example, by Lukáš Bartošák’s foul on Moses Usor, then Lukáš Masopust ran up to the Zlín defender and pushed him. Both received a yellow card. After the final whistle, some actors in their emotions explained everything to each other emphatically.

Trpišovský was upset, he counted three wounded. “But I don’t blame the opponent, it’s always about where the match takes you. I’m sorry. Everton look very bad. Petr Ševčík also had to substitute because of the procedure I mentioned and which no one actually deals with. It was normal with Moses Usor, such a little body, he just got it in a stupid place,” noted Trpišovský.

And he added the appeal: “We must protect offensive and technical players so that they are not afraid to play football. If the intervention is made, he should be punished,” the coach of Slavia wished.
