Carlos Alcaraz and the possibility of being No. 1 before the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz (4th in the world, 19 years old) can become No. 1 in the world before the US Open. The year that the Big 4 gave up the throne after 18 interrupted years, at the hands of Daniil Medvedev, another player could touch the top of the ranking.

Medvedev will wake up this Monday with 7,875 points, after his title in Los Cabos (the first since the US Open 2021). Next week he defends the Canadian title (1000 points) and the following week Cincinnati semifinals (360).

Zverev is the current 2nd in the world with 6760 and his return is still unknown. He does not defend points in Canada and was the 2021 Cincinnati champion (1000 points).

Rafael Nadal, third racket with 5620, does not defend points in either of the two Masters 1000 tournaments prior to the last Major. He will not contest Canada and could return in Cincinnati.

Fourth in the ranking, Carlos Alcaraz has 5035 points prior to Canada. He did not play the MD in 2021 and barely reached the first round in Cincinnati (10 points). If the Spaniard won both tournaments he would exceed the 7,000 point barrier; if Medvedev made it to the quarterfinals in both tournaments, he would be below Carlitos.
