BWF World Championship 2022 Final, “Dejavu” Ahsan/Hendra in Tokyo All

KOMPAS.com – Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan felt like they were experiencing “deja vu” after losing in the final of the BWF World Championship or the 2022 World Championship.

Ahsan/Hendra had to settle for being runners-up at the 2022 BWF World Championship after losing to representatives from Malaysia, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, Sunday (28/8/2022) afternoon WIB.

Competing at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Ahsan/Hendra gave up two straight games after struggling for 40 minutes.

Ahsan / Hendra actually started the match very well because they always won until the position was 19-16 in the first game.

Chia/Soh then changed the pattern of their game by lifting the ball more often.

The strategy worked because Chia/Soh managed to score five consecutive points to turn things around and lock the first game with a 21-19 win.

Continuing on to the second game, Chia/Soh, who had started to find their best pattern of play, appeared to dominate, especially after the interval.

Chia/Soh finally managed to end the Ahsan/Hendra resistance with a 21-14 victory in the second game.

The defeat of Chia / Soh is what makes Ahsan / Hendra feel like experiencing deja vu.

Exactly on August 31 last year, Ahsan/Hendra also competed in Tokyo against Chia/Soh in the bronze medal match for the 2020 Olympics.

Ahsan/Hendra at that time also started the match very well because they managed to beat Chia/Soh 21-17 in the first game.

However, Ahsan / Hendra failed to maintain consistency and finally gave up with a score of 17-21 and 14-21 in the next two games.

The defeat made Ahsan / Hendra have to settle for returning from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics without bringing home a medal.

The defeat in the final of the 2022 BWF World Championship tarnished Ahsan/Hendra’s 100 percent record.

Previously, Ahsan/Hendra always managed to win and become champions when appearing together at the 2013 2015 and 2019 editions of the BWF World Championships.

Apart from the defeat in the final of the 2022 BWF World Champions, the struggle of Ahsan/Hendra, who are now more than 33 years old, deserves to be appreciated.

Ahsan/Hendra once again proved that age is not an obstacle to making achievements at the highest level.
