Brajkovic turns professional in Europe’s strongest league

Luka Brajkovic started his career as a professional basketball player in the Spanish ACB and thus in Europe’s top league. CB Breogan has signed the 23-year-old power forward and center from Feldkirch. Brajkovic wants to use “a great opportunity”.

“I’m sure that Spain is the right decision for my development,” he told APA (Austria Press Agency). It is “not a matter of course” to receive an offer from the strongest league on the continent as a college graduate, added the 2.08 meter tall Feldkircher, who signed the contract on Sunday afternoon. Brajkovic will probably act as a backup for the American Ethan Happ, who came to Lugo from Ludwigsburg.

Participation in Champions League qualification

CB Breogan will also play internationally for the first time in the club’s history. The Spaniards will take part in the qualification for the Champions League from September 21st. The group stage would certainly be attractive. “That would mean more games, which would probably also mean more rotation in the team,” said Brajkovic.

Brajkovic can not only look forward to a new challenge with opponents like Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, but also to the fans of CB Breogan. The home arena of the 6,000-seat Pazo dos Deportes de Lugo is almost always sold out.

Missed out in NBA draft

Brajkovic left hometown second division side Dornbirn Lions in 2018 and has worn the jersey of the Davidson College basketball team in North Carolina for the following four seasons. As a senior, he averaged 14.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game and was named NCAA Atlantic-10 Player of the Year.

The Vorarlberger did not get a chance in the NBA draft. The fact that a place in the NBA Summer League didn’t work out was incomprehensible even to many experts.
