At 16 years old the Boadilla athlete Irati Unamunzaga Altuna has become three-time champion in the Spanish Archery Championship held from July 28 to 31 at the South sports complex of the Complutense University of Madrid.
Among the more than 700 athletes and 160 teams from all the Autonomous Communities that have participated, Unamunzaga has climbed to the top of the podium proclaiming oneself champion of Spain both at the individual level in the modality of Recurve Bow, female cadet category as a team in the same modality and in the cadet and absolute categories.
The young goalkeeper adds like this new triumphs to his record in which the gold medals obtained in the Championship of the Community of Madrid 2020/21 and the Spanish Grand Prix 2020/21 celebrated in Toledo and silver in the Spanish Indoor Championship 2019/20.
Irati closes a brilliant season in which he has also participated internationally in the Nimes Archery Tournament 2022 (France) and in the ISF Gymnastics 2022 in Normandy (France) with the National Cadet Recurve Bow Team in which they won the team bronze medal.
Since she began to practice this sport at the age of 9, the young woman from Boadilla has already managed to participate with the Absolute National Recurve Bow Team at the 2022 Antalya World Cup (Turkey), at the 2022 Paris World Cup and at the age of 15. in the Mediterranean Games in Oran (Algeria) in which they achieved a fifth place in teams.
To Unamunzaga, who currently train at the High Performance Sports Center in Madrid with the archers of the Spanish Federation after passing through the Modernization Center of the Madrid Archery Federation, a new challenge with the Cadet Recurve Bow National Team in the European Championship to be held in Lilleshall (United Kingdom) from August 15 to 21, 2022.
