Baseball: Suzuki’s double RBI allows the Cubs to win the “Field of Dreams” game against the Reds.

Seiya Suzuki went 1-for-3 with a double RBI and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 on Thursday in a game played at Field of Dreams, built on the location of the famous 1989 movie of the same name.

At bat, Suzuki shone on the momentous occasion by running Patrick Wisdom from first to second base with a line hit to left-center field on a hit by Nick Lodolo (3-4) with two outs in first sleeve.

Suzuki swung in to score on a Nico Hoerner single and an Ian Happ double gave the Cubs another run in the first round. An RBI single from Nick Madrigal in the fourth inning gave them a 4-0 lead.

Drew Smyly (5-6) took the win by pitching five innings without a shot, as Matt Reynolds’ double in the seventh inning wasn’t enough for the Reds. Suzuki got two walks in his five passes at the plate.

Replicating a scene from the film, the two teams entered the field in the cornfields of Dyersville wearing their respective 1910s and 20s uniforms in front of a crowd of 7,823.

The venue was hosting a game for the second time after the occasion was introduced last year.
