Drama Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona has not been exhausted. After reportedly being dragged into legal action, the Dutch player also refused to move to Chelsea.
De Jong’s career at Barcelona was like a roller coaster. Praised when he was only recruited three years ago, now the 25-year-old midfielder wants to be kicked out.
Barcelona, who are in a financial drag, are trying to let De Jong off. His salary, which reached 20 million euros this season, and 25 million euros next season, was a burden for the club.
Such a large salary is not without reason. Barcelona had suspended the player’s fee at the start of the pandemic, which had to be repaid four years later, until his contract expired in 2026.
Frenkie de Jong want his rights, however Barcelona determined to find a way to release the player. Most recently, the Blaugrana are reportedly preparing legal steps to terminate the player’s contract.
Barcelona saw ‘evidence of criminal acts against the person who gave the contract to De Jong’ in 2020. At that time, De Jong got a new contract when the club was still led by Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Barcelona are determined to cancel the contract, and hope De Jong follows the rules according to his first contract in 2019. If so, Barcelona will be able to pay De Jong ‘cheaper’ and avoid having to pay his salary arrears.
Barcelona itself insisted on releasing De Jong, because it would also have an impact on other recruits. LaLiga is reportedly still refusing Barcelona to register Robert Lewandowski, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, and Jules Kunde because the club’s finances are not yet within safe limits.
At the same time, De Jong himself refused to move to another club. Manchester United have been rejected, and most recently Chelsea.
The Blues are interested in De Jong, as a replacement for N’Golo Kante, whose future is on the line at Stamford Bridge. Reportedly, Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, has called the player directly.
According to SPORT, De Jong is apparently still not interested in moving to London. In fact, Chelsea is willing to pay off Barcelona’s obligations to him.
Reportedly, Chelsea have not given up chasing De Jong. Now it’s up to the former Ajax Amsterdam player to decide whether to stay in Barcelona or move to England.
