“Outrageous!” Lückenkemper attacks critics

Now she shoots back!

After the disappointing world championships in Eugene (USA) with only two medals (one gold and one bronze each), the criticism of the German track and field athletes was great. But sprinter Gina Lückenkemper (25) does not want to accept the way and let it sit on it.

A week before the start of the home European Championships in Munich (August 15th to 21st), in which 112 German athletes are starting, Lückenkemper says on “Sky”: “When you put it in perspective where our athletes come from and what else they do and how they have to work their ass off to compete against these full pros, I think it’s better to salute the athletes than salute them pull them here.”

But one statement in particular stunned her. To speak of “weak meat” in the live stream is “very disrespectful and impudent towards the athletes”.

After the World Cup, Lückenkemper had already clearly criticized the German funding system. A lot has to be done now to ensure that “talents stay in athletics in the years to come and that it is also attractive to make a conscious decision to work as a competitive athlete,” said the Munich native.

At the World Championships, the 4×100 m relay led by Lückenkemper won bronze – the only medal besides gold from long jumper Malaika Mihambo (28).

At the Diamond Meeting in Chorzów, Poland, Lückenkemper finished fourth over 100 meters as the best European. And the other German athletes were also in better shape. Christina Hering (27) finished sixth as the third best European over 800 meters. Konstanze Klosterhalfen (25) took seventh place over 3000 meters.
