Alexia Putellas, finalist for the UEFA Player of the Year award

The FC Barcelona footballer Alexia Putellas is one of the three finalist candidates for the trophy at the Best Player of the Year 21/22 which grants the UEFAalong with German Lena Oberdorf (Wolfsburg) i l’anglesa Beth Mead (Arsenal), has announced the highest body of European football this Wednesday.

The three footballers were chosen from a preliminary list of 22 prepared by UEFA technicians, filtered by a jury made up of the national selectors who took part in the last Women’s European Championship and journalists accredited by UEFA, who will also be in charge of the final votes.

Alexia Putellas was recognized last year with the FIFA The Best and France Football Ballon d’Or awards, as well as being recognized by UEFA ahead of her former teammates Jennifer Hermoso and Lieke Martens.

In recovery phase

The Spanish international is recovering from the rupture of the cruciate ligament in her right knee that she suffered before England’s Euro clash.

Following the same procedure (within a list of five candidates), UEFA announced the three finalists for the award for the Best Coach of the Year 21/22: French Sonia Bompastor (Olympique de Lyon); German Martina Voss-Tecklenburg (German national team); and the Dutch Sarina Wiegman (English team).

The winners of the two awards will be announced at the draw for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 22/23, whose ceremony will take place on Thursday 25 August at the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul.
