Alcaraz: “I’m number 4 in the world and it’s difficult to withstand the pressure”

The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz recognized this Sunday that “it is difficult to withstand the pressure” for being number 4 in the world ranking and, incidentally, facing each tournament being one of the main favorites, in his first press conference in Cincinnati.

“Now I face each game as a challenge to maintain my level. I am number 4 in the world, one of the favorites to win this tournament, so it is a bit difficult to withstand the pressure,” said Alcaraz, who lost in the first round this week. in Montreal against American Tommy Paul.

“I am trying to bring out my best version, I train to improve and try to repeat the level that I had in the season on clay and in Miami. It is a challenge for me to maintain that level,” he added.

Alcaraz, 19, assured that he has understood what happened to him in Montreal and that it was a problem of managing expectations.

“I understood what happened in Montreal. I couldn’t take the pressure of being one of the favorites to win the tournament or having the position in the ranking that I have now,” he said.

“I come to train and show who I am. That means I have to use the pressure in my favor, I am clear that I am playing against the best in the world,” concluded the Murcian.
