Alanís recovers in September the most important medieval fair in the province of Seville

Alanis de la Sierra hosts between September 2 and 4, after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic, its XVII Medieval Days of the Sierra Morena Seville, an event that “has established itself as a tourist, commercial and cultural meeting of great importance” in the province. As a novelty, this year the I Andalusian Meeting of Medieval Sports Leaguesthe first to be held in Andalusia, with activities such as the historical grime with weapons on foot and the historical archery on foot combining it with horses.

The presentation of the conference at the Casa de la Provincia was attended by the acting president of the Diputación de Sevilla, Elizabeth Herreraand the mayor of Alanís, Eva Cristina Ruiz (Por Alanís), who have been accompanied by extras from the municipality who will participate in the course of the conference, the provincial body has detailed in a press release this past Tuesday.

The medieval recreationwhich is one of the hallmarks of the conference, stars in the cartel designed by the City Council. The first mayor has anticipated that programming will continue along the lines of other years, because “it is the key to success.” With sixteen editions behind, the Medieval Days have become a sign of identity, being declared Festivals of Tourist Interest in 2019.

For three days of celebration, the town is transformed into a medieval market in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where visitors can buy artisan products, try the gastronomy, play at being a gentleman and enjoy parades. The Castle, the hermitage of San Juan and the parish church are the enclaves of this event. In addition, the Castle will be the protagonist of a show that mixes the magic of fire, the strength of the horse and the history of the Villa.

More than 100 stalls participate in the medieval market where you can find leather crafts, metal, jewelry, traditional toys and aromatic plants, among other things, and where you can buy the typical cuisine of the area, such as Iberian cured meats, hams, cheeses and oils. In addition, the market has a play area for the little ones.

Of the daily parades will tour the town in which fire and music will be the protagonists, as well as medieval concerts in the surroundings of the Fuente de Santa María, theater in the hermitage of San Juan and horse racing in the Castle. As a novelty this year, the 1st Andalusian Meeting of Medieval Sports Leagues will be held, the first to be held in Andalusia with a series of activities such as the historical grime with several weapons on foot and the historical archery on foot combining it with horses.

One of the tests that will be carried out consists of the archery practice on horseback, thus practicing the sports of horse riding and archery. Also, a series of tournaments have been prepared parallel to the activities that will take place during the Medieval Days. To round off the tournaments, on Sunday afternoon there will be an archery tournament for children under 12 years of age.
