Akanji before moving to Man City

Not Inter Milan, not Leicester City: Manuel Akanji’s future employer is apparently called Manchester City. As ‘The Athletic’ reports, the transfer from Borussia Dortmund to the English champions is nearing completion.

As a result, BVB will collect a transfer fee of 17.5 million euros for its central defender if an agreement is reached. Most recently, Akanji was no longer in the Dortmund squad. The message was clear: instead of letting the contract expire in 2023, the black and yellow want to sell the 27-year-old for a lot of money.

This plan seems to be working. Four years ago, Akanji switched from FC Basel to the Revierklub, costing a good 21 million euros at the time. Now it’s surprisingly on to the Skyblues at the highest level of club football.

Update (4:44 p.m.): According to ‘Sport1’, Akanji is committed to City until 2027 and is expected to earn an annual salary of eleven million euros there.
