Wimbledon – Venus Williams counters reporter: “Are you going to write a good article?”

The reporter had asked after the first round match, “Are you in the tournament to win it, or is the first goal to get through the third round where Serena and Andy failed?”

In 2019, Serena Willams and Andy Murray were eliminated in mixed doubles in the third round of Wimbledon. The duo’s siblings lost 3-6, 6-4, 2-6 to Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar-Martinez three years ago.

“We’re better than them, please,” replied Andy Murray’s 36-year-old brother, laughing at Williams.

The five-time Wimbledon winner in singles, on the other hand, reacted rather irritated. “What kind of question is that?” said the 42-year-old, answered smugly and rolled her eyes: “For us, this is just a walk, come on.”

Argument between reporter and Williams

The reporter then clarified his question again: “Are you just here for the experience or do you want to be there until the end?”

Williams then countered, “Are you going to write a good article or just a halfway decent one?”

When the journalist said he would do what he always does, the American replied: “So do we.” Williams and Murray meet British mixed doubles Alicia Barnett and Jonny O’Mara in the second round on Sunday.
