Seibu Lions built a golden age from the 1980s to the 1990s. In the 10 years since 1985, he has won the league nine times and achieved the number one in Japan six times, boasting unrivaled strength. Hiromichi Ishige, who led Seibu in the golden age as a team leader, looks back on his teammates at that time.

The second person following Koji Akiyama last time was Kazuhiro Kiyohara, who joined Seibu as a superstar of Koshien and continued to reign as No. 4. We heard from the team leader the impression of Kiyohara immediately after joining the professional team, the educational aspect of the team, and the scene where he shed tears in the Japan Series with the Giants in 1987.

–Mr. Kiyohara joined the team after being nominated for the first place by Seibu at the 1985 draft meeting. He was a superstar who created many legends at Koshien, but what was your first impression?

Hiromichi Ishige (hereinafter: Ishige)I couldn’t feel the dust in the confident atmosphere, and I felt uneasy. It seemed like you were trying to find out what kind of world a professional is. He wanted to go to the Giants, but in the draft he was nominated by Seibu instead of the Giants. He wanted to go professional, but he wasn’t Seibu … I think I was a professional in the midst of various conflicts.

There may have been some unsettling parts, and I could see the half-confidence and half-suspicious feelings from my facial expressions. I think he must have been a wonderful slugger by playing the 4th grade at PL Gakuen and playing an active part at Koshien, but I was impressed that he had a more anxious look than that. increase.

–The commander when Kiyohara joined the team was Masaaki Mori. Katsuya Nomura told Mori that “Kiyohara should be rigorously raised” and “spoiled.” What do you think of Mr. Ishige?

IshigeIt may not be “strict”, but I don’t think it’s particularly “spoiled”. The team had various rules such as secret leakage prevention and curfew, and there was a fine system for breaking them. Every time anyone breaks any rule, they are fined. In the case of Kiyohara, there were quite a lot of curfew breaks, and the fines swelled twice in the game. I think it was up to about 2 million yen.

Because it is a rule, both Osamu Higashio, who was a veteran at the time, and I paid the same fine when we couldn’t keep it. I don’t know what Mr. Mori personally said to Kiyohara. However, at least in front of my teammates, I didn’t feel that Kiyohara was treated specially. I didn’t hear much that he had quarreled with someone.
