In addition to squad planning, there is another construction site at VfB: the contract extension with sports director Sven Mislintat (49).
His working paper expires next summer. There have not yet been any concrete talks. The three new board members around Boss Alexander Wehrle (47) first want to get an idea of Mislintat and his work.
On the one hand, he can understand that. But also disappointed.
Speaking on the STR podcast, Mislintat said: “I feel like at one point we missed an opportunity to end this topic a little early. Or maybe to underpin more clearly what Rino (trainer Pellegrino Matarazzo/ed. Red.) and I are doing here. Just imagine if the club management had said before the last matchday: We’ll go with them to the second division. I would have found that a cool statement.”
Wehrle had left the futures of Mislintat and Matarazzo open ahead of the season finale.
Mislintat: “For me, Alex’s approach is completely fine. This is pro football. He just wants to see what kind of transfer window I’m doing.” Means: The current transfer window also decides on Mislintat’s future.
He is self-confident, says: “I’m relatively sure that given the economic conditions we have, I’m one of the few who can do a relatively good job.”
In principle, he can well imagine an extension, jokes: “I’m not only in Stuttgart with my skin and hair, but now also with my gut…”
