Neanderthal baseball players fight back as best they can

The Neanderthal baseball team from TSV Hochdahl stand up to the undefeated table leader Paderborn, but the first sending off in 15 years throws the hosts off their game.

The Neanderthal baseball team at TSV Hochdahl did their best to defend themselves against the undefeated leaders from Paderborn. Coach Daniel Faßbender had to do without outfielder M. Lehmann, who will be out at least until September with a torn muscle. S. Emtiazi (Corona), Chr. Bruhy and the reactivated N. Köhler were also absent. As usual, T. Fassbender started on the throwing mound, only allowing three points from the opponent in the first two innings.

However, the offensive of the Neanderthals needed until the third inning to adjust to the pitcher of the “Untouchables” and to get the first two runs onto the scoreboard to make it 2:3. In the fourth round, the guests then got five runs, including a three-run home run, without the TSV Hochdahl baseballers being able to answer it.

This should rapidly change. In round five, another home run provided the only point for the Paderborners, while the Hochdahlers were able to shorten their lead with four runs of their own. In the sixth inning both teams scored a run (home run by P. McKelvy for Hochdahl), and it was 10:7 for Paderborn. McKelvy then took over pitching on NBC’s side in the next inning and T. Fassbender took over his duty at third base. The visitors earned two points, but Hochdahl closed the gap further with four runs of his own, including a two-run homrerun from baseman Chr. Hallmann.

So it was 11:12 into the eighth inning. Again, both teams each managed a run, but then McKelvy allowed himself to be carried away to comment loudly on a decision by the good umpires (referees) and was sent off by them – the first dismissal against Hochdahl in more than 15 years. This inevitably led to another change on the throwing mound. Hallmann took over, E. Wendland came from the bench. The last inning then showed that the sending off had led to a break in the Hochdahler game. Paderborn were able to score seven runs and Hochdahl remained uncountable. The game ended 20:12 for the guests, who lived up to their club name “Untouchable”.

From Hochdahler’s point of view, it was an unnecessary defeat. The opponent’s respect for the committed performance: “The first team that pushed us to our limits” was only small consolation.
