The Reds won the top honors of the Desjardins Baseball Classic played in Saint-Constant. The Reds U9 atom A made sure to mark the history of the Desjardins Baseball Classic. The team played with aplomb to win the top honors of the tournament which took place in Saint-Constant.

The Reds didn’t show any weakness and the defense shone throughout the weekend. “Our strength is the defense, agreed coach Sébastien Poiré. She is exceptional. We count on 8-9 players who can play as much in the infield as in the outfield. We have quick-witted little guys.”

In a level where a ball launcher is used, defense is the mother of all success. Valleyfield had four double plays in the tournament, a sign that the team is aware of the importance of this aspect of the game. Shortstop Étienne Quevillon is a seasoned third-year veteran who led the game master hand during the tournament.

A competition that began with a 10-7 victory over the Sherrington/Napierville Green Sox. A hard-fought match during which Quevillon rightly put himself in value.

The second part, against the Titans of Tétreauville was apprehended. “They’re 7-1 this season,” Poiré said. Ours is 9-0-1 so we expected to find something that suited us. Justin Leduc stood out in a 16-6 victory that qualified the Reds for the semi-final.

Valleyfield continued its winning streak with an 11-2 win over local team, the Roussillon Expos. Lukas Poiré was named player of the match.

The final match was a Valleyfield/Sherbrooke classic. Charles Lemieux was named player of the game after the Reds defeated the Rockies 13-5. “The 11 players were solid, confirmed Poiré. They all contributed with a timely hit or defensive play during the tournament.”

The Reds return to the regular schedule. Twelve games are still on the schedule, including three this week, before the regionals.
