The Government gives the green light to the school program for badminton and archery

The Govern has given the green light to the request of the Consell d’Eivissa to implement an adapted schedule in a secondary education center so that the island’s monitoring/technification athletes could increase the number of training sessions without affecting their studies and thus avoid having to leave the family home to practice sport.

This request was made after reaching an agreement in the extraordinary plenary session on July 17, 2020. In addition, on February 8, 2022, the Special Regime Teaching Service issued a report with proposals on the implementation of a specific program of attention to the athletes of the Archery Modernization Program or of a high level of this modality at the IES Sa Colomina and the athletes of the Badminton Modernization Program or of a high level of this modality at the IES Sa Blanca Dona.

Yesterday the favorable resolution was known to impose the Specific Program for the Compatibility of Studies with High-Level Sports Practice for the 22/23 academic year for the aforementioned disciplines and in the aforementioned centers.

As stated in the annex, this program is aimed at students who are in compulsory secondary education or baccalaureate. In addition, to participate in the program you must submit an application in which you must prove that you are a high-performance athlete, a high-level athlete from the Balearic Islands or that you are part of the Technification Program. In addition, to enroll in the aforementioned centers.

The Specific Program for the Compatibility of Studies with High-Level Sports Practice aims to allow the reconciliation of studies with technical or high-level sports practice. Thus, these students will have the advantage of justifying absences motivated by attendance at training sessions and participation in official competitions up to a maximum of 25% of the mandatory teaching sessions. The centers will also facilitate the modification of the evaluation tests when they coincide with duly accredited official sports activities. Finally, the exemption of the subject of physical education.

From the Insular Delegation of Badminton they were very satisfied with this resolution. “It is something very positive,” said Vicent Martínez, who explained that the exemption from physical education class has already been done in recent years and is something that is “noticeable (in the improvement) among the athletes who have been able to receive to this exemption and those who do not.
“If now there is going to be a special plan in which athletes are going to have facilities for taking exams, attendance and they will be grouped in the same center, it is a step forward that must be applauded and taken advantage of,” continued Martínez.

Finally, he demanded that this measure also be extended to the athletes of the Consell Monitoring Center: “We are handling a very high number of athletes and the reality is that we have 11 places in the Balearic Modernization Center and 10 in Ibizans occupy, but there would be another nine or 10 athletes who are part of the Consell Monitoring Center who could be in the modernization center and it would be very good for them to benefit from this aspect ».
