The Capitals have no mercy for the Eagles

After losing the first two sets of their all-Quebec battle against the Aigles de Trois-Rivières, the Capitales de Québec recovered, and not nearly so, at Stade Canac on Sunday.

The Vieille Capitale team dismantled the Mauricie team by a score of 17 to 2, in a duel where the sluggers from the Capitals had fun as rarely this season.

Jonathan Lacroix clearly announced the intentions of his team in the first round, by achieving a grand slam. His Cuban teammate Yordan Manduley, who made his comeback in the uniform of the “Caps” last week, also accomplished this feat in the sixth inning. He made it 15-2 by allowing Josh McAdams, Kyle Crawl and TJ White to hit the trails.

Garrett Takamatsu, for his part, had one of his best batting games, having not less than five hits and driving in two runs.

Starting pitcher Sam Poliquin (3-3) added one loss to his record after giving up four hits and as many earned runs in two innings. The Capitals also tortured Christian Allegretti, victim of five hits and six earned runs in just one and two-thirds inning. Of the five pitchers used by the Eagles, only Josh Smith was able to stifle the invading opposing attack.

The visitors only had five hits and two runs off Codie Paiva (4-2) in six innings. Their only brief moment of celebration came in the sixth inning, when Connor Panas cut the lead to seven with a two-run long ball.

By virtue of the win, the Capitals share first place overall in the Frontier League with the Washington Wild Things, with identical records of 30-14.

The Capitals travel to New York State on Tuesday to play three games against the Tri-City ValleyCats (24-20). The Eagles (20-22), meanwhile, will start a series against the Frontier League’s worst team, the Empire State Grays (2-41).
