Selected in the 44th position of the last Draft, John Metchie III, rookie receiver for the Houston Texans, announced Sunday to suffer from leukemia.
Houston Texans rookie receiver John Metchie III announced Sunday that he has acute promyelocytic leukemia. The 22-year-old said he is unlikely to play football this season.
“Recently I was diagnosed with APL (acute promyelocytic leukemia), the most curable form of leukemia. I am currently receiving excellent medical care, am in good spirits and expect to recover later”said Metchie in a statement on the official Texans website.
“As a result of this diagnosis, I will probably not play football this season. My main focus will be my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and best wishes.”
He combined 96 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touches last season before rupturing his Achilles tendon in Alabama’s 41-24 win over Georgia in the Southern Conference College Championship game. East. Last June, he was selected by the Texans in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
