Supercup: Hamburg farewell for Justus Hollatz with NBA stars – basketball

Justus Hollatz (21) still has the key to the basketball hall. Before the national player moves to his new club CB Breogan in Spain, the Towers native is working on his shot there. “I throw at the basket 800 to 1000 times a day,” says the point guard.

In between, he empties his Wilhelmsburg apartment. Things go to his parents first. It is still unclear when Hollatz will finally move to Galicia. Because Hollatz dreams of saying goodbye on the big stage!

On the 19th/20th August sees the national team come to the Barclays Arena for the Supercup. Just four days before two important World Cup qualifiers and ten days before the start of the European Championship, the final endurance test begins. Opponents: Italy, Czech Republic and Serbia.

Because title sponsor VTG has left, the city (contract until 2024) has increased its support to 160,000 euros.

NBA star Nikola Jokic is coming

“All teams will compete with the absolute best,” says DBB General Secretary Wolfgang Brenscheidt (58). Superstar Nikola Jokic (27) has agreed to play for the Serbs. The Denver Nuggets center was the NBA’s most valuable player twice in a row!

The DBB is planning with Dennis Schröder (28), Daniel Theis (30), the Wagner brothers Franz (20) and Moritz (25), Isaac Bonga (22) and Maxi Kleber (30).

And Hollatz? “Justus has pretty good chances,” says national coach Gordon Herbert (63). The Canadian wants to start on August 6th in Cologne with 16 or 17 men and have reduced the squad to twelve men by Hamburg. “Because it’s about building a team.”

Hollatz hopes that he will be the No. 3 playmaker behind Schröder and Maodo Lo (29/Berlin): “I have to be ready at all times and keep my energy up. I will give everything for that.”

With 1000 throws a day!
