Spain wins the water polo world championship on penalties

A stop by Eduardo Lorrio in the last throw of the penalty shootout allowed the Spanish water polo team to be crowned for the third time in its history world champion, after winning this Sunday by 6-5 to Italy in the penalty shootout, after concluding regulation time with a draw (9-9) on the scoreboard.

A victory that allowed Spain to take revenge for the defeat they suffered three years ago, precisely against the Italian team, in the final of the World Cup in Gwangju, where those of David Martin fell by a clear 10-5.

A marker that the Spanish team seemed in a position to return to Budapest this Sunday to those of Alessandro Campagna, after being placed with an advantage of four goals (4-8) in the first half.

Difference that Italy managed to shorten to force the penalty shootout, where Eduardo Lorrio, substitute throughout the tournament, became the hero of the Spanish team after giving the victory to the Spanish team by stopping the latest release from Giacommo Cannella.
