Shin Tae-yong Calls AFF U-19 Cup Regulations Obsolete

Bekasi

The U-19 Indonesian National Team returns from the 2022 AFF U-19 Cup after losing head to head with Vietnam and Thailand. Shin Tae-yong calls this regulation obsolete.

Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand actually both collected 11 points in the final standings. But the AFF U-19 Cup regulations put forward head to head for teams with balanced points through the mini standings.

Garuda Nusantara could only draw 0-0 with Vietnam and Thailand. Meanwhile, Vietnam Vs Thailand ended in a 1-1 draw so that both teams scored goals and took the head to head advantage over the U-19 national team.

Among journalists, this regulation was only known on Saturday (9/7/2022) or D-1 before the U-19 vs Myanmar National Team match. At first, many thought that the regulations for the AFF U-19 Cup put forward goal difference.

If the goal difference is used, the U-19 National Team will qualify for the semifinals. Because Rabbani Tasnim Siddiq Cs scored 17 goals and conceded only 2 goals (+15).

Vietnam’s goal difference is +9 and Thailand +6. For this reason, the coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong also said the regulations used in the U-19 AFF Cup were no longer feasible.

“Head to head like the current situation has indeed disappeared in FIFA or AFC regulations. It’s a little strange that it is still in the AFF regulation,” said Shin Tae-yong when giving a press statement after the U-19 vs Myanmar national team match, Sunday (10/10). /7).

Apart from colliding with regulations, the U-19 national team was also eliminated due to allegations of flirting by Vietnam and Thailand. The two teams met in the last match of Group A at the same time with a 1-1 draw.

In fact, players from Vietnam and Thailand dropped a lot to waste time after the 1-1 match score. Thailand had a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute through a goal scored by Kroekphon Abram. Vietnam replied five minutes later through Khuat Van Khang’s goal.

“In fact, we didn’t qualify, this doesn’t make sense and our opponents and competitors should also do fair play, but in reality it’s not like that,” said Shin Tae-yong.

“Indeed they are afraid of Indonesia, therefore I am a little offended and not happy with this situation. This means that Thailand and Vietnam have felt that Indonesian football is getting better, so they are doing something like that,” said the Korean coach.
