Ruud – Lehečka 6:3, 6:4, Lehečka is out in the quarterfinals, Krejčíková and Siniaková also finish

Twenty-six-year-old Krejčíková won her first match on clay in Hamburg since her sensational triumph at last year’s Roland Garros. In a season that was interrupted for three months by an elbow injury, she advanced to the first quarter-finals since the Australian Open in January.

However, the match for the semi-finals did not go well for her: against an aggressively playing five years younger opponent, Krejčíková piled mistake after mistake and lost her first five games on serve. She had hope for a turnaround at the beginning of the second set, in which she broke the curse of her own serve and equalized from 0:2 to 2:2, but won only one game in the rest of the set.

World number 19 Krejčíková, who will defend last year’s WTA Tour title in Prague next week, lost the match after 72 minutes after playing a backhand too long down the line.

Siniaková lost to Peraová

Tennis player Kateřina Siniaková lost to the American Bernarda Pera 3:6, 1:6 at the tournament in Hamburg and did not advance to the first semifinal of the season.

The 26-year-old Siniakova, who reached the quarterfinals of the singles at the WTA tournament after 11 months, lost to Pera in 71 minutes. The American, a year older, won her tenth match in a row and confirmed her good form after winning the tournament in Budapest. She did not lose a set in all the matches.

Siniaková did not break her opponent’s serve even once in the match, on the contrary, she lost her serve four times. She lost to Pera for the first time in her career. Thanks to her first participation in the quarterfinals this season, she should move up in the ranking by approximately ten places.

Lehečka did not advance to the quarterfinals

Jiří Lehečka, the Czech number one, fought to advance to the quarterfinals against French Open finalist and world number five Casper Ruud of Norway. The Czech tennis player lost to his opponent in two sets 3:6, 4:6.

In Switzerland, it was the first ever duel between the two players.
