“We talked about a whole bunch of things. We talked about shoes. He talked about what he’s been up to for the past two weeks. He has returned home to Norway and will return there on Monday. It was fun and relaxed. »
Their relationship
“We were very close at the Ryder Cup last year. And I played a practice round with Viktor when he was still an amateur, at the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2019. I’ve gotten to know him quite well over the past few years. »
Their 3rd round together
“At the start of the game, I got closer to the flags than him, but each time Viktor hit me with these long putts. There I said to myself, “Wow, that’s not possible”… In these situations, if your state of mind is not good, it can reach you. But fortunately today (Saturday), my head was right side up. »
Their coming duel
“There certainly wasn’t a lot of discussion between us during the last few holes. (Saturday). But I think the last holes of the course require it, they are very tricky to play and you need enormous concentration to understand them. But I’m not averse to having a conversation along the way (with Viktor). It’s good. It probably allows both of us to be more liberated. There are times when you have to talk, and times not to. And that was the case today too. »
The 4th round scenario
“We’ve seen it all week. Guys can get through in 30, 31 moves. So I expect the unexpected. But at the same time, I have to focus on myself. If I turn in a good card, I won’t have to worry about what Viktor or the two Camerons are up to. (Smith et Young) or anyone else. I just have to do my thing. In any case, it was by concentrating on myself that I played well these first three days. I had not succeeded in Augusta in 2011 (map of 80, 15th) and the pill had been hard to swallow. Nothing is acquired, experienced or not! »
