This Wednesday, July 6, Provincial Ovalle faced its match for the ninth date of the Third Division A championship, a match that was pending for the Copa Chile. The rival on duty was Municipal Mejillones, a rival that was received at the Diaguita Stadium.

Despite the proximity to their last match against Quintero Unido, the Provincial Ovalle coaching staff decided to line up a starting eleven with practically all their starters, almost the same team that traveled to the fifth region.

Mauro Pizarro in the arc; Kevin Araya, Manuel Cortés, Michel Rojas and Mayko Flores in defense; Diego Vergara, Leonardo Vásquez and Luis Pérez in midfield; Leandro Vargas, Luis Espinola and Pedro Cifuentes in the lead.

Domain from the first minute

One of the first approaches of the ovallinos was with a great clearance by Luis Espinola for Pedro Cifuentes, who almost gained in speed, but the mussel defender put his body well to prevent him from finishing comfortably, this in the 4 minutes.

At minute 6, the ball hit the hand of one of the sky-blue defenders, the penalty was clear, the referee charged and the visiting team did not complain. The person in charge of shooting from the twelve steps was Luis Pérez, but his shot was so smooth and to the middle, that it caused the goalkeeper Kevin Arqueros to cover without problems and without rebounding.

In any case, at minute 9 the “Ciclón del Limarí” found the opening of the account, this with a left-footed shot by Luis Espinola.

The truth is that “those from the mega port” were lost from the field, facilitating the dominance of the “cycloneros”, who created a new opportunity at minute 11, this with a shot from the right by Pedro Cifuentes, sending the ball on one side, while at minute 14 a center by Kevin Araya was headed by Leandro Vargas, causing the ball to go outside again.

The dominance of the “Ciclón” continued, and at minute 17 Pedro Cifuentes took a shot that the visiting goalkeeper was able to cover at point-blank range, and that in the second instance the defense cleared the corner.

Said corner kick was executed, Manuel Cortés did not manage to head in a good way, but the ball was served to Luis Pérez, who coldly defined to widen the difference in the score to two goals.

It was not until the 19th minute that Municipal Mejillones created its first opportunity, but the “cyclone” defense managed to prevent the ball from entering the goal, at the insistence of the “celestial” line judge took a lead position.

Another of the dangerous arrivals of “those from the mega port” was at minute 24, with a free kick by Sebastián Espinoza that went high.

But this did not manage to disturb the “blues”, at minute 26 Luis Pérez shot from mid-range to score a great goal and the 3 to 0 in the afternoon.

In the minutes that followed, the home team continued, although not with such depth, it was not until minute 42 when they created a new chance through a counterattack by Pedro Cifuentes, but in this attack the team lacked the final punch to realize.

The last of the first half was at the feet of Leandro Vargas, who hooked inside the area, then hooked outside, but his great individual play did not find a reward, since his powerful shot went high.

merciless complement

Just starting the second half, at minute 49, Leandro Vargas wreaked havoc on a weak northern defense, managing to score the fourth goal of the afternoon with a shot from below.

One of the arrivals in favor of the “celeste” was through Elías Herrera, who took a shot inside the area that went wide, this at minute 54.

Until at minute 57 the referee sanctioned a penalty in favor of Municipal Mejillones, apparently due to a hand by Leonardo Vásquez. The person in charge of executing was the goalkeeper Kevin Arqueros, who defined in a great way to place the only discount.

In minute 61, the technical staff of “Ciclón” decided to rest one of its figures, Luis Pérez, who left the field to the applause of the public. In his place entered Sergio Arriagada.

Provincial Ovalle continued to create the best chances, and at minute 64 he almost scored the fifth when Manuel Cortés headed in a corner kick, demanding a good save from Archers, who sent the corner kick.

In any case, at minute 69 Provincial Ovalle found the fifth goal in a corner kick, almost by chance, this because the Mejillones defense tried to clear, but the ball hit Michel Rojas, entering the goal to become a goal.

As the end approached, the alternative men were given the opportunity, one of them the Sotaquino striker Justin Contreras, who at minute 75 responded with an assist for Leandro Vargas, who scored the 6 to 1.

Sergio Arriagada and Leandro Vargas himself scored in the 79th and 89th minutes respectively, to thus sentence the final 8-1. It was not necessary to extend the match any further, and this was interpreted by the central referee, who gave the final whistle just at minute 90, without adding additional minutes.
