Primoz Roglic leaves the Tour de France: “We have decided that it is best not to continue”

Slovenian Primoz Roglic will not be at the start of the fifteenth stage of the Tour de France. The leader of Jumbo Visma, who lost all options for the podium in the first week of the French round after suffering a crash in the fifth stage and another in the eighth, thus leaves the French race for the second consecutive year, the main objective on his calendar . The Slovenian had been working for the team for several days and for the leadership of his teammate Jonas Vingegaard, but this Sunday both he and the team have decided to get off the bike.

“To heal the injuries well, we have decided not to be at the start today,” Roglic and his team explained in networks. “I am proud of my contribution to the current classification and I am confident that the team will make our ambition of achieving the yellow and green jerseys a reality. Thank you all for the support », finished the Slovenian champion in a tweet.

Roglic was currently in 21st place in the general classification, 33 minutes and 39 seconds behind the leader Vingegaard, and had become, despite his injuries (he dislocated his shoulder in the fifth stage), one of the rider’s squires Danish.

With this, there are already two editions in a row in which the leader of the Jumbo is forced to abandon the French round due to injuries, and still cannot win the yellow in Paris, something that some already see as a curse. Roglic lost the 2020 Tour in the last time trial against Tadej Pogacar when everyone thought he was the winner. In 2018 he was fourth and in 2019 he did not attend and chose to compete in the Giro d’Italia.

Everything seems to indicate that the double winner of the Itzulia will now prepare to compete in the Vuelta a España, a round that has been awarded in the last three editions.
