Like last year, Paula Badosa will be there for the knockout stages of Wimbledon. The Spaniard (4th in the world) won a standoff of more than two hours on Saturday against the Czech Petra Kvitova, former world number 2 today fallen to 26th place but who remains at 32 a sacred player on grass (7- 5, 7-6 [4]).
After a difficult start (led 4-2), she snatched the first set by winning the last three games when Kvitova had served for the set. The latter then missed the mark by missing 9 break points in the second set. Badosa then proved to be the strongest to conclude the tie-break.
In the next round, she will again challenge an opponent with immense experience, ex-number 1 Simona Halep (now 18th).
