Paddle. What is it and what are its differences with-el-tennis

Emerged from the ingenuity of the Mexican Enrique Corcuera, paddle tennis was born as a variant of tenniswhich today boasts a base of millions of practitioners around the world, especially in Spain and Argentina. However, it has several features that make it unique.

Field and instruments

The first thing that Corcuera modified and that remained a characteristic of paddle tennis was the court. The space where paddle tennis is practiced is a 20 x 10 m rectanglewhile in tennis the dimensions are 23.77 x 10.97 meters.

The surface can be artificial grass or cement, completely ignoring clay, which is characteristic of Roland Garroswhere this week the Premier Paddle is played.

In addition, its main attribute is the walls that surround the field. and that can be used during the development of the game, something that in tennis does not exist even remotely.

The second difference is the instrument to hit the ball. While in tennis a racket with a rigid string is used, in paddle tennis a racket with a rigid surface is used. also, usually made of carbon, and with a rubber core.

For this same reason the balls also differ, especially in pressure; the paddle ones barely have a pressure of 4.6 and 5.2 kgwhile those of tennis reach 8,165 kgwhich favors speed and height.

Of course, some balls that are used in tennis are used for training in this sport, but not for the official games.

How is padel played?

Where there is a great similarity between these two sports is in the scoring system and the objective that is that the ball is not returned or that it bounces twice.

in both sports the points are added in 15, 30, 40 and the winning point that the game grants (always with two points of difference with the rival). By winning six games (the same with a difference of two) he takes the set.

And to win the game, both in paddle tennis and in tennis in tournaments that are not Grand Slams, you play to win two out of three sets.

One of the big differences is that padel is played with couples and not like tennis that has it as a modality, but the stellar one is singles.

There is also the use of the wall as part of the game. The ball can hit the walls and then be returned to the rival field as long as you have bounced before.

In tennis it is served above the waist, while in the paddle below and with previous boat.

Anyway, these two sports have many similarities and also differenceswhich is why paddle tennis is beginning to have its own niche of fans and the market.
