Official: Sebastián Battaglia fired as coach of Boca Juniors, Argentina | Other Soccer Leagues

That trust, which was very fragile, ended up running out in Boca Juniors and causing an expected news, to tell the truth: Sebastián Battaglia is no longer the team’s coach.

The coach was dismissed after failing to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores, in the penalty shootout (6-5) in which Darío Benedetto missed the final charge and another one in regulation time, which ended 0-0.

“Club Atlético Boca Juniors communicates that Sebastián Battaglia ceases to be the coach of the first soccer team and thanks him for his contribution throughout this cycle,” the club said in a statement.

“Battaglia, after passing through the Reserve, took over as coach of the First Division and added two titles, such as the Argentine Cup and the League Cup, for which the entire club will be eternally grateful to him for his work. Sebastián, Boca It will always be your home. Many successes in your career.”

His excuses did not work after a controversial press conference in which he made public his stay with the board: “I had the opportunity to ask for places that we had to improve in terms of replacement, but it was not like that and one tries to do the best with the campus you have. There are situations that one raises and should be resolved in the time that they must be resolved. And not only that: players who were important left, but they are situations that I do not handle, ”he initially said.

Later it was corrected on ESPN but, apparently, it did not convince: “It is being installed how my statements from yesterday (Tuesday) have been taken by the campus. I never thought of hurting the campus, much less. If you see the conference well, I said that I am very proud of what was seen on the pitch. I really felt represented by the players”, he declared.

For a long time, despite the titles, its continuity was in doubt. The announcement was only made official, nothing more.
