NHL | The generous gesture of the seasoned Montreal defender towards Slafkovski. What did he enable him to do?

The Slovak Šikula conquered all of Montreal immediately after the draft. He stunned the Habs management and the fans at the rookie camp, where he performed one show after another and scored a goal after only 20 seconds of a mock game.

His twenties are somehow destined for him. He wears the same number on the jersey of the Slovak national team, but in Montreal it was already occupied by experienced fullback Chris Wideman. However, as soon as he learned about this collision, he gave up his number in favor of the most valuable player of the last Olympic Games.

“First and foremost, we’re trying to create an environment where he feels welcome,” explained Wideman, who chose the number six for the new season. “He’s a young guy and I wanted to make sure he knew we were excited to have him here. we have,” said the 32-year-old guard, saying that they want to help him fulfill his potential and become a really good NHL player.

The 18-year-old Slovak was said to be in shock when he found out what Wideman had done for him. He is aware that this gesture is definitely not usual. “It is strange. It’s definitely not always the case when you come into the NHL as a youngster that you get your number. When I found out, I just said “wow”. It’s another great thing,” Slafkovský boasted. He thanked Wideman immediately after the news.

“I’m glad he’s excited about it. It’s a great story,” the American defenseman let himself be heard. However, his gesture will not be free. But anyone expecting an opulent gift would be mistaken. “I only asked him to sign a Canadiens jersey for my son to have in memory,” said the bek. Slafkovský plans to invite him at least to dinner.

The Slovak talent can’t wait to return to Montreal. “I’m looking forward to wearing the jersey. I think about it every day. I can’t wait to be there and get things moving,” he added.
