Néstor Cortés wants to represent Cuba in the World Classic

Néstor Cortés, the left-handed pitcher for the New York Yankees born in Batabanó, assured in an interview with the “Pelota Cubana” website that he would like to play a World Classic under the name of his country of origin, although independently of the Castro regime.

“From the beginning I supported the Association of Professional Baseball Players of Cuba because it is a way to represent our country and return Cuban baseball to the highest levels,” accurate in that conversation.

Cortés added that although he was born on the island, “I left very young and did not have the opportunity to play in the National Series or with the Cuban team in the classic.” He added that it would be very important for him to make that dream come true.

“For me it would be very important to play a World Classic defending the colors of Cuba. I have already reached the Major Leagues, now the World Series can come, but it would be special for me to represent Cuba in that event that brings together what is most valuable and shines in world baseball”, he continued.

The left-handed pitcher of “los Mulos” also assured that he is still fighting to be included in the All-Star Game of Major League Baseball (MLB).

“I still have a few exits left to prove to increase the votes of the public. The last starts have not been all that good, but I feel sure that I can continue at the level that I have shown so far”, he insisted.

“The series against the Astros is very complicated, they already showed it last week when we divided the four matches and they were able to dominate the powerful set that we have, which included a perfect game,” he concluded about the last sub-series for him in the Major Leagues.

In mid-May, Cortés announced that he had deactivated his Twitter account for a very strong reason. As he stated, some messages published by him a decade ago were wrong.

The Cuban said that, after the controversy over a publication that took racist messages from the current Yankees pitcher when he was 17 years old, he decided to withdraw from this social network.
