The former world tennis number 1 has announced the birth of her first child, Théodore, born on July 1.
Maria Sharapova has become a mother. As she revealed in a post on Instagram, Friday July 15, the former world tennis No.1 gave birth to a boy named Theodore and born on July 1, the fruit of her union with the businessman Alexander Gilkes, to whom she has been engaged since December 2020.
“The most beautiful, the most stimulating and the most enriching gift that our little family could ask for”, she wrote in the caption of a photograph where she poses with her companion, their gaze plunged on the newborn. The text is followed by the date July 1, 2022 in Roman numerals and an emoticon of a chick emerging from its egg.

The 35-year-old former tennis champion retired from sport in February 2020. World No.1 in 2005, she won 36 tournaments during her prolific career, including five Grand Slams (Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008 and Roland-Garros in 2012 and 2014). The latter had revealed to her fans her pregnancy last April through a publication on Instagram.
