The legendary Beto Ávila was the first Mexican to appear in an All-Star Game on July 8, 1952 at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. The Veracruz native was the starting second baseman in the American League when he played for the Cleveland Indians.

The Mexican played the entire game in which he hit one hit and produced a run. That year he won the American League batting title and Thanks to his good performances he was able to return to the All-Star Game in 1954 and 1955.

Fernando Valenzuela’s record

Fernando Valenzuela holds the record as Mexican with most appearances in an All-Star game. El Toro imposed this mark with his six consecutive performances from 1981 to 1986.
