McEnroe mentions Freud to talk about Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios explored all its limits just a week ago. The Australian reached a Grand Slam final, a fact that not many tennis players can boast of, and was only two sets away from putting his signature in the Olympus of great champions of this sport. After so many controversies, statements and gestures and behaviors that have created a kind of love-hate relationship between the world of tennis and that of Canberra, Wimbledon 2022 It was, in a way, his redemption. And, in this sense, it has become the perfect argument for several great champions of this sport to claim more prominence towards him. It is the case of John McEnroewho in declarations with the BBC made it very clear how beneficial the presence of a healthy and motivated Kyrgios can be for tennis.

And all this despite the fact that, as he himself confesses, Nick has always rejected the American’s invitations to have talks “distended”. On more than one occasion McEnroe has been offered to train him, but a free soul like Kyrgios could only reach his first Grand Slam final alone, without anyone giving him directions from the box. Therefore, to the question of who could train Nick KyrgiosJohn has the perfect answer: “This guy doesn’t need a coach, he’s a genius the way he goes out there to play. Sigmund Freud come out of the grave and somehow find a way for this kid to continue like this for a couple of years, because tennis would serve him well”.

Therefore, John continued his analysis, both tennis and mental, referring to his virtues… but also to the big problems inside your head. “He’s a good guy, the players like him, he’s well regarded in the locker room and he does a lot of charity. But has many demons inside, in the sense of fear of failure. We’ve all had it and the question is how you can cope with it. The punches he draws are incredible. We totally need it like this, but we can’t let him try it half the time. It is clear that you see him there, sitting, and you know that he tortures himself in some way. He is brutally talented, he is smart. He’s an awesome player when he wants to.”

COMPLAINTS TO YOUR BOX, REPROACHABLE BEHAVIOR

Among the great problems that we referred to in the previous paragraph, McEnroe cited the conversations and constant complaints towards your work team like something he can’t tolerate. “I like most of the things he does, but how do you think his team feels when he yells at them from the court? They’re the people he loves the most, right? Unfortunately, you always take it out on the people you love. love more, because you feel closer to them. I think we can all relate to that, but if it wasn’t so sad, in a way it might even seem funny. I hope you can look at that part and think that you don’t need to do that your friend or your girlfriend”-
