Mateo Cassierra already shines with Zenit and scores his first goal in a friendly | Colombians Abroad

From Barbacoas, Nariño to Russia and the world. It wasn’t long after Mateo Cassierra changed clubs in the Russian league, moving from Sochi to Zenit St. Petersburg to keep his compatriot Wilmar Barrios company. The player from Cartagena with a much broader tour of the club and multiple champion of the local rental will now be able to count on the goals of former Ajax Amsterdam, Cassierra.

It all happened in the blink of an eye. In 2021 he signed a contract with Sochi where he played 24 games and scored 14 goals, numbers that catapulted him to the great Russian club Zenit Saint Petersburg. With a warm welcome from Wilmar Barrios, who is trusted to be the guide in the adaptation of Mateo Cassierra, the striker is already beginning to shine.

He signed on June 30 when the official transfer to Zenit was confirmed, and in a matter of three days, he was already within range of the preseason to face Red Star Belgrade in a friendly that the Russians won against the Serbs with a score from 2-1. Although he was not a starter, it did not cost him much to adapt in his debut and surprise with a goal jewel, especially for the play preceding the definition.

Mateo Cassierra entered the friendly at 71 minutes and in just three minutes, he created a collective play that ended after achieving short passes. His definition was crossed and without opportunity for reaction for the Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper.

He was not a starter, but this debut in the preparation match could be the beginning of a firm story with the rival goals and could be that card in the Zenit Saint Petersburg offense for the Russian Super Cup and the league that will start on the 9th and July 15 respectively.
