Marine Johannès is on fire again and receives a new nickname “à la Curry”!

For her 8th game this season in the WNBA, Marine Johannès once again made the powder talk with the Liberty. To the point of attracting prestigious comparisons with a certain star leader of the Warriors, responding to the name of Steph Curry!

Returning to the United States three years after his first mixed experience there? No problem for Marine Johannès. The French rear has been a hit since his return to the New York Liberty, and was once again formidable this Sunday. Opposed to the Los Angeles Sparks, the French international simply finished as her team’s top scorer (17 points), again aligning the 3-point shots (5/9)!

Marine Johannes closer to Steph Curry in the US

Impressive regularity since his comeback across the Atlantic, Johannes is unfortunately already beginning to lack support in the New York ranks. Sabrina Ionescu across (14 points, 5/18 shooting), the Frenchwoman failed to carry the Liberty alone to victory (74-84). On the other hand, she again garnered praise from observers, and even a new nickname… worthy of an NBA Finals MVP!

“Le Chef” Marine Johannès is at 15 points.

Able to cook up opposing defenses like a certain Stephen Curry among men, Johannès impresses John W. Davis, the journalist of the Long Beach Press-Telegram. The latter is obviously not the only one to kneel in front of the performance of the ASVEL player. Interviewed by Pepper Persley before the meeting, Sabrina Ionescu was also able to say all the good things she thinks of her new teammate:

It’s amazing to have him with us. We are still developing automatisms, since we haven’t done a lot of training sessions together. But she’s really integrated and asserted herself, both offensively and defensively, knowing that she’s defending against some of the best opposing players. We are really very happy that she is here and that she does a lot of things for our team.

In just 8 games played this season, Marine Johannes has visibly agreed the entire WNBA landscape on her qualities. A good omen with the 2023 World Cup, where she will certainly have a big role to play with Les Bleues in September!
