Lewandowski talks about Barcelona move after Bayern departure

Mith a thumbs up, Robert Lewandowski proudly posed in his new club’s outfit for the first time after moving to FC Barcelona and promised Spanish fans a season full of titles. “My goals are always high, I always want to win,” said the 33-year-old former Bayern striker in an interview with his new club. “We have so many good players with great quality, we can go very far. We can achieve a lot with this team this season.” The Munich and Spanish clubs agreed on the transfer of the striker at the weekend.

According to Spanish media, the Polish national soccer striker had already arrived in Miami on Sunday, where his new team is currently on a US tour. Accordingly, Lewandowski should complete the medical check this Monday and be presented. A debut in the test against Inter Miami on Wednesday should be unlikely. “I’m enjoying being here,” said the goalscorer, who was greeted with a handshake by Barça President Joan Laporta and posed for the cameras on the beach. “The last few days have been very long, but now the deal is done and I can focus on a new chapter in my life, a new challenge.”

“I always wanted to play in LaLiga”

He described the move to the Catalans after eight years at Bayern as the “next step”. “I always wanted to play in LaLiga, always play for a big club,” said Lewandowski. He was immediately convinced of the game philosophy of his new coach Xavi Hernández: “I spoke to Xavi and I knew from the start that the club was on the right track with him. It was easy for me to choose Barcelona,” he said. “He has a wonderful future here and I want to be part of it.”

Meanwhile, after Lewandowski’s departure, Bayern President Herbert Hainer emphasized the continued good relationship between the Munich team and their former top striker. “There is no bad blood. At the end of the day we solved everything excellently for the benefit of all. A win-win-win situation,” said the 68-year-old in an interview with “Münchner Merkur” and “tz”.

After the departure of their centre-forward, the Bayern managers and coach Julian Nagelsmann are not particularly worried about the offensive quality of the Munich team. “We have a strong team and signed an outstanding new signing in Sadio Mané, especially up front,” said Hainer and also referred to the extension of the contract with winger Serge Gnabry. “We are in a great position and absolutely happy.”
