Levante Las Planas moves to Gavà to play in the First Division

Sant Joan DespíLevante Las Planas is preparing to make the jump to the First Division. The Sant Joan Despí team begins the adventure in the top category of women’s football with a new stage for the matches of the Iberdrola League. The Bòbila stadium, in Gavà, will be the field that will host the Catalan team’s matches. With a capacity of 1,500 spectators, it has natural grass – a requirement of the league in the short term – and will allow the newly promoted team to televise the matches.

The club, since gaining promotion against Espanyol a few months ago, began working tirelessly to find a new headquarters. The construction of a new stadium that met the requirements imposed by the League to be able to compete in the top category of women’s football was put on the table. The lack of space (both in the field itself and in the town of Sant Joan Despí) and the large financial investment required made this option unviable. The Camp de l’Hospitalet, near the current location, was also considered as an option, but it does not have natural grass and the club has preferred to make a long-term bet and choose a stadium that meets the requirements that the new professional league (still pending disputes between the Federation and the League) aims to impose.

The final decision tied Gavà with Sant Joan Despí. The team led by Ferran Cabello, who is also the organization’s technical secretary, will play all official matches at the Bòbila field and train twice a week. Despite this move, the club emphasizes that the nerve center of Levante Las Planas will continue to be the Sant Joan Despí facilities, which are under construction to adapt them to the new needs.

The agreement, worked on in recent weeks in coordination with Sant Joan Despí City Council, will be publicly presented in September, coinciding with the start of the season. However, Levante Las Planas will start training at Bòbila twice a week this August, to prepare for the pre-season. This municipal equipment is adapted to the requirements of the competition and the needs of the team, such as the natural grass and other facilities such as the tactical room and the bleachers. The agreement between the City Council and the club includes investment in improvements to modernize and fully adapt the Bòbila Stadium to League standards. The women’s team will share the stadium with Club de Futbol Gavà, which will continue to play official matches there.
