Judo. The French women’s team forfeits the Budapest Grand Slam after cases of Covid

The French women’s judo team, affected by several cases of covid, was forced to withdraw from the Budapest Grand Slam (July 8-10), the French Federation announced on Wednesday.

“Following the internship of the French women’s team in Alicante, several cases of Covid were detected among the athletes and the staff”explains the instance in a press release.

“In agreement with the doctor of the French teams and all the high-level stakeholders, France Judo withdraws its women selected from the Grand Slam of Budapest”continues the text.

Several medalists from the Tokyo Games among the French selection

The women’s delegation should include several medalists from the Tokyo Olympics last summer, including Romane Dicko, Amandine Buchard, Madeleine Malonga and Sarah-Léonie Cysique.

The French men’s team, which includes Teddy Riner, remains committed to the competition, specifies the Federation. The ten-time world champion was however present at the preparation camp in Alicante.

Almost a year after the Olympics, Riner is due to return to international competition on Sunday for the Grand Slam, the most prestigious category of tournaments on the world circuit, before the Worlds in October in Uzbekistan.
