Javier Tebas has gone from criticizing Barça to wanting him to make big signings

BarcelonaJavier Tebas, president of the Spanish Football League, had spent the last few months attacking Barça in all possible directions, emphasizing in every media that passed and when he had the opportunity to talk that the Barça club did not have the capacity to sign any player due to their financial situation. Although his duties are different, it seemed that the president of the Spanish League was a kind of spokesman for the Barça club, but always speaking in a negative way towards the institution.

Following the club’s refusal to join the CVC project over the issue of television rights, the situation between the two sides worsened. Although later Tebas emphasized that the union with CVC was not obligatory, but voluntary. However, the president of the League did not hesitate to say that Barça was in the hands of Florentino Pérez and the Superliga and that he listened to everything the white president wanted. There were even moments of tension when the president of the League said that Barça could not sign Lewandowski, and then the player had doubts, to the point that the agent of the Polish striker, Pini Zahavi, went call Laporta in the middle of the meeting in La Jonquera to ask for explanations. But the Barça president reassured him, keeping the pact with the agent.

After the words of Tebas and the subsequent call of Lewandowski’s agent, Laporta made some institutional statements to the club’s media asking Tebas to refrain from talking about possible additions to Barça, in addition to reproaching him for the way how he does it, whether voluntary or involuntary: “In the face of statements from the president of the League saying that we cannot sign a player, I would like to remind him that his duties are to oversee the Professional Football League and clubs, so I ask him to refrain from commenting on whether or not we can sign a certain player, because that clearly harms Barça’s interests. ” That was in late May.

Laporta put Thebes in place

Since then, the last month and a half, that Thebes has lowered its tone in the latest statements it has made. The earing of the Barça president paid off and the top official in the league changed his speech about Barça’s ability to make additions this summer, waiting for the Barça club to activate the second lever -the sale of 15% more of the television rights- from 15 June. To say that Barça did not have the capacity to sign, Tebas went on to open the door when players arrived at Barça: “They know the numbers and, if the levers produce this capacity, they will be able to sign.”

The speech of the president of the football employers’ association has even gone from belligerence to a certain complicity. According to Tebas, Barça is a money-making machine, has opted for the club’s financial recovery and believes it is on the right track to try to alleviate the losses. On the subject of Lewandowski, he hopes that the Polish player will arrive in Barcelona and make a good championship: “I hope the levers will make him able to get to Barça, because he is a legend of Bayern and European football.” If you don’t have the chance to sign him, if you want the Barça club to do so. Tebas should preside over a competition with great players, which shone when the rivalry between Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo was hegemonic. With Mbappé staying in Paris, any renowned signing by Barça will benefit from the League show.
