The striker of Athletic Club Iñaki Williams, under-21 international and once senior with spainannounced this Tuesday that “starting today” he will play with the Ghana national teamso he could be in the next World Cup in Qatar with the selection of the country in which his parents were born.
“Today a great challenge begins. Starting today I will defend the Ghana shirt, with my values as a flag, leaving my skin every minute and always giving the best of me. I am one more of ‘The Black Stars (The black stars)”, assured the striker born in Bilbao in a video published on social networks.
In the video, the oldest of the Williams brothers -the youngest, Nico, also plays for Athletic- reflects on his life experience, that of his family and the reasons that have led him to decide to play with Ghana.
“Each step we take in life has a meaning, an evolution, a look to the future that in turn leaves a mark, a legacy. My parents have always instilled in me some values based on humility, respect and love. They have taught me the way I have to face life in this constant struggle to continue growing and working to improve as a person and as a professional”, he explains.
“That’s why I feel like the time has come to meet my roots and with myself. And with all that Africa and Ghana mean to my family and to me”, he adds, determined to “give back” to Ghana: “a small part of what it has given us and what it has contributed to me as a person, as a son, like a brother”.
