How is the playoff for the 2023 Australia and New Zealand World Cup played? | National teams

The Copa América Femenina 2022 party on Colombian soil is coming to an end. The only thing missing is that last game in which the title will be defined between Colombia and Brazil, one that is looking for its first trophy in the South American competition, and another, the giant that dominates the continent’s football longing for its eighth Cup. The only slip it had was in 2006 that Argentina snatched it from his hands.

Colombia, Brazil and Argentina can already say that they are in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. In turn, the Colombians and Brazilians qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, France in 2024. The Argentines secured their passage to the Pan American Games 2023 in Santiago de Chile, and the World Cup event. However, the great unknown is how the fate of Chile and Paraguay will be defined in the playoffs. This system changed radically with respect to that of 2019.

In 2019, Argentina qualified for its third World Cup in the international playoffs, facing Panama in a two-leg series. But now, with more World Cup quotas, the system has changed. It is no longer a two-game series, but rather a knockout and a much longer tournament.

There will be ten teams that will play the international playoffs, including Chile and Paraguay representing Conmebol. It will be played from February 17 to 23, and there will be three quotas that will give the playoff defining the fate of those national teams, and with the hope that the red, and red and white can say present as Colombia, Brazil and Argentina.

Thus, the playoffs will have a longer outcome with three groups. Group A and B will be made up of three national teams, while Group C will be made up of four. There will be four heads of series that will be installed in those areas. Two of those top seeds will be seeded in C, awaiting their rivals.

The top seed of A and B will wait for the final. For their part, the other national teams will face each other first in each zone and from there the rival for the head of the group will come out. Whoever comes out the winner of that match, will have the ticket. In C, the two heads of series are measured with their other rivals, and from there whoever wins goes to the final that gives the third place.

These are the seven selections already installed:

1. Chile
2. Paraguay
3. Haiti
4. Panama
5. Cameroon
6. Senegal
7. Chinese Taipei
8. Thailand
