Hessian championships: 150 judoka in Wiesbaden

The organizing Judo Club Wiesbaden is represented with a powerful team at the title fights in the U18 and U21 area.

WIESBADEN – (sc). It’s a welcome opportunity to check your own performance. When around 150 judoka gather in the Wiesbaden sports hall on the 2nd ring this weekend as part of the Hessian Judo Championships in the U18 and U21 area, it is a good opportunity to “see where the people stand”. as Marcel Stebani from the organizing Judo Club Wiesbaden puts it. The JCW will be there with a team of around 36 athletes and will provide an ambitious team. Even if, for example, Helene Riegert – who is currently preparing for the European Youth Olympic Festival (July 24th to 30th) taking place in Slovakia – or Hanna Sedlmair, top athletes will not start.

“Being successful” is Stebani’s goal – and he’s also excited to see how the Ukrainians starting for the JCW will fare. The club has given refugee children and young people from the Ukraine a sporting home (we reported), Ukrainians will also start for other clubs in the Hessian title fights. Meanwhile, the JCW is taking care of the organization with a team of around 60 helpers. The athletes also pitch in. “The mats will be set up quickly,” says Stebani with a smile. It starts on Saturday and Sunday in the women’s area at 10.30 a.m., while the boys’ fights start at 12.30 p.m.
