The tablecloth between sports director Jonas Boldt and sports director Michael Mutzel has been cut for months. Immediately before the start of the season, according to “Kicker”, a line will be drawn.
DAccording to information from “Kicker”, Hamburger SV is now parting ways with sports director Michael Mutzel shortly before the start of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga. The magazine reported on Wednesday evening. HSV, who narrowly lost out to Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga relegation, will start the new season on Sunday with an away game at Eintracht Braunschweig. Since the beginning of the week, Mutzel’s release has been promoted, it is said.
According to media reports, the 42-year-old had already been demoted and was only tasked with planning the squad. He should therefore no longer have any contact with the team and the coaching team, but only take care of transfers. His contract was valid until 2023.
In the final phase of last season, tensions between HSV sports director Jonas Boldt and Mutzel are said to have arisen. After a rumored crisis talk between the two, the club had not officially commented. Mutzel came from TSG Hoffenheim in 2019, where he was chief scout for three years.
Unlike last time, the club is now dealing with its ambitions. “Of course we accept the challenge of promotion,” says Boldt and admits: “We want to get out of this league!” Through the previous season, those responsible had hung around with verbal acrobatics. “Development of the team” was the name of the matter. “It would no longer be credible if we were to backtrack after we failed so narrowly in the previous season,” says captain Sebastian Schonlau.
A clear edge in the announcement will probably not be enough. “The best 2nd division of all time”, as the previous season was courted, was reduced to normal after the departure of Schalke and Werder. It can still be exciting like last season. The teams 1. FC Nuremberg, Hannover 96, Darmstadt 98, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Greuther Fürth, Arminia Bielefeld, 1. FC Heidenheim and SC Paderborn are also good for promotion.
