Hamburg Open 2022: Bernarda Pera defeats Kontaveit and wins the Hamburg Open

Lto american Bernarda Pera upset top seed Anett Kontaveit 6-2, 6-4 at the end of European Open in Hamburg on Saturday, for his second title in seven days.

Pera, 81st in the world ranking, saved three of the four break points she faced and won four of the six she created to beat Kontaveit, the number 2 in the world.She won her first WTA title last week in Budapest.

It was Pera’s 12th consecutive win since qualifying for Budapest and after losing her previous five matches. Pera, 27, beat Serbian Aleksandra Krunic in the final in Budapest last Sunday.

Kontaveit played the 16th final of his career and the first since February, when Iga Swiatek beat her in Doha. In Hamburg, she was looking for her seventh title in singles.

The only previous match between the two was in the first round at Wimbledon in June, where Kontaveit beat Pera 7-5, 6-1.
